Overview:
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, an active medium sized parish in Mountain Lakes, NJ, is looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic individual to lead and grow our music program. Choir programs include regular senior and junior choirs, as well as occasional larger groups and bell ringers from the parish and greater community for special celebrations. The Music Director/Organist will provide accompaniment for worship services in a manner that enhances the spirit of worship and assists the congregation in praising and serving God.
Musical Facilities:
The sanctuary has a recently restored Estey pipe organ with a three manual and pedal English drawknob console, digital switching between the console and the pipes, and midi recording ability. The instrument features 28 ranks of pipes. Other church instruments include a restored Bechstein rehearsal piano, an electric keyboard, a set of hand bells, and various children’s percussion instruments. The music library is well organized and extensive, encompassing anthems of all kinds and periods.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead the music program for the church, working with the rector to select music appropriate to the church calendar.
- Provide organ or other keyboard music for worship services.
- Rehearse the Senior and Junior choirs, developing musical skills and promoting both stability and growth in the choirs.
- Develop and manage an annual budget for the music program, as approved by the Vestry. This includes music purchases, care of music library and church owned instruments, and hiring outside musicians as needed.
- Function as a member of a team with pastoral staff, office staff and as the representative of music program on the Worship Committee.
- Plan and organize periodic community concerts, such as excerpts from Handel’s “The Messiah”.
Skills Required:
- Knowledge of sacred choral music and organ repertoire for church services.
- Familiarity with Anglican/Episcopal services and service music.
- Choir rehearsal techniques for working with amateur church choirs, both adult AND children’s choirs.
- Ability to:
- Play pipe organ and piano proficiently.
- Sight read music and improvise.
- Play a variety of hymns and transpose as required.
- Accompany both soloists and choir in rehearsals and services
Accountability: Administratively responsible to the Rector.
This is a part time position approximately 25 hours per week. Group rate benefits are available through the Diocese of Newark.

Overview
The Associate for Communications (AC) is responsible for managing and producing all written communications from St. Paul’s Church under the direction and supervision of the Rector. The Associate for Communications also functions in a public relations capacity for the congregation and, to a lesser extent, as an administrative assistant for the Rector. The AC also assists in communications with other congregations, the Diocese and the greater public concerning events, activities and services at the Church. The written communication material includes but is not limited to the monthly newsletter, three weekly worship bulletins, and the weekly announcements. The AC is also responsible for maintaining the parish database and, with some production help, for preparing various parish mailings.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Full competency in desk-top publishing including but not limited to the use of Quark or Page-maker and Microsoft Publisher and related programs for the production of the Parish newsletter and other program material.
- Direct experience interacting with and assisting the membership of a non-profit, professional or community organization in a professional and helpful manner.
- Copyediting experience and proven attention to detail.
- Fluently bi-lingual in English and Spanish, orally and in writing.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience or background with churches or church work is certainly an asset though not required.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assisting the membership of the congregation, wider Church and general public with questions and/or requests related to programs, events or ministries that are happening in or through the Church.
- Prepares the 3 weekly service bulletins for worship services, including the weekly announcements & prayer list insert.
- Prepares the worship bulletins for all special services including but not limited to weddings, funerals and special occasions.
- Translates basic communications material into English and/or Spanish, with the assistance of the Associate Priest who is fluently bilingual.
- Prepares and edits the bi-monthly newsletter and oversees its assembly and distribution in the mail.
- Prepares and/or oversees the assembly of all mass mailings including but not limited to the quarterly schedule of worship leaders, the annual stewardship mailings, Vestry mailings and the Christmas and Easter mailings.
- Maintains on a regular basis the parish database, including the updating of other staff databases as necessary.
- Prepares and publishes the Parish Directory, ideally on an annual basis.
- Maintains and re-prints all parish communications including but not limited to the Welcome card, the Stewardship packets.
- Prepares the annual Parish Parochial Report for review and signature of the Rector.
- Assists with other, general administrative tasks as requested by the Rector, including but not limited to setting up letters, gathering information for reports, placing advertisements.

Christ Episcopal Church is a multi-cultural congregation on the border between Glen Ridge and Bloomfield, New Jersey. We are seeking a part-time Youth Director to continue to build upon our church’s ministry with youth in grades 7 – 12. This position is an instrument for the unifying presence of Christ in the midst of a community that is diverse in every way. The position reports to the Rector and works with the parish Youth Ministry Team.
General Responsibilities
- Respond to the spiritual and social needs of the youth in the community with an inviting, inclusive approach.

- Actively build pastoral relationships with the youth.
- Recruit, train and supervise parish volunteers to assist with the youth program.

Qualifications/Expectations
- Ability to communicate the good news of the Christian faith with energy, warmth, humor, and effectiveness.
- Willingness to commit to the vision and mission of the Church as it is expressed in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark and Christ Church – Bloomfield/Glen Ridge. This includes a commitment to attend our worship services at least twice each month and to support and participate in diocesan-sponsored youth events.
- Experience in gaining the respect of youth, parents and adult volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and proactively without close supervision.
- Demonstrated strong skills in communication, administration and organization.
- Availability to meet bi-weekly with the Rector and monthly with the Youth Ministry Team.
Compensation
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
